Having a large library of fonts is an absolute must as a graphic designer, though it's really handy for anyone.
So for the sake of being generous, here are all of the good free sites for getting fonts. Unfortunately, Abduzeedo has them on a week-by-week basis, so it's harder to browse; however, they also show the fonts in context of how they'd be used.
I decided to take a crack at the last tutorial I posted. I usually don't do them, since they have nothing to teach me, except for that one specific technique. But in my boredom I figured I should belt this one out. Because I didn't have access to the same brushes and I didn't feel like doing some of the more monotonous steps, mine's pretty different, but I think it still looks cool.
I think it's about time that I imparted the works of another great designer. Today's is BossLogic, a young guy from Australia who loves video games and is damn good at what he does. He's another guy that you make have seen around if you visit sites like shoryuken.com
There are many more in the Street Fighter Tron series
Inspired by the Crysis suit
"Hyper-Real" Rose is also one of many
There are also many of the "Simplistic" series.
And this was a collab with another artist.
He does a lot of series, as you can probably tell. Go check out the rest of his works on his DeviantArt or on his official website.
Because the last tutorial I posted was super simple and can be done in less than five minutes, provided that you're comfortable with photoshop, I felt like I should post another one that's a bit more engaging for my more advanced followers. This one yields a cooler effect, but requires the use of some stock imagery.
No, seriously, this one's super easy. And it can be done with almost any reasonably recent Photoshop version (CS and above, probably). Sure the effect isn't all that fantastic, but I'm sure it can be put to good use.
I had completely forgotten to mention SignalNoise.com in my list of inspirational websites. Shame on me. So to make up for my lapse in memory, it's getting its own post.
SignalNoise is the website for Canadian designer James White. He's a fantastic artist and you make recognize some of his work.
Go check out his website, maybe buy a poster or shirt or something.
I saw the movie Black Swan at around midnight last night. And right before I saw it, I watched the following video, which completely changed my perspective on everything that happened; not necessarily for better or worse, but different. If you're thinking about seeing Black Swan, watch this review first.
As for my own input on the movie, it was interesting, that's for sure. It makes little sense for a while then you start to understand that everyone in this movie is insane. Okay, not everyone, just all of the female characters, which is everyone except the director.
If you like cerebral films that look deep into insanity, or if you have a thing for flat-chested women, go check it out. There's hot Mila on Natalie action.
I haven't posted any sort of motion graphics on here yet. And as a lover of motion graphics, that simply cannot stay the same. Here's a little something by FreddieW, an amazing video editor. You should check out some of his other stuff as well.
Yeah, this game looks hilariously awesome. I don't care if it's not some visually stunning masterpiece with a compelling story, and neither does Duke.
Fuckin' deal with it.
I was going to wait until tomorrow, or at least later tonight to make another post. But this is kind of ridiculous. For those who don't know, the clothing brand Gap tried to update their identity and got a new logo. It wasn't well-received to say the least. The new logo was such a failure that the company reverted to their original logo and pretended the whole thing never happened.
The logo we're used to
The new piece of hipster trash
I personally like the old one much better, and I never liked it that much to begin with. To make matters worse, a website hosted a redesign contest, showing how much better their logo could have been.
So here's the base image I used for my last post. It was something I did last year for a friend's birthday, since I'm so damn poor and I can't get him anything. But then, in a way, it's also more special that way, since no one else would ever be able to find this. Let me know your thoughts on the matter.
Also, the image was taken from his Facebook because he couldn't get me any high-res images in time to do this. So, yeah, shitty quality image on a big ass background.
Here's another tutorial today. This one comes via MediaMilitia.com.
Because the last tutorial I posted was a bit advanced, I'm posting one that's much simpler to jump into if you're not very familiar with photoshop. Unfortunately, this may be something that a lot of you already know. But even so, you might learn a thing or two.
While I did post something based off of a Kanye West song earlier, I am much more fond of Lupe Fiasco. So I have to give homage to my main man and so I made this one. Let me know what you think!
Tubedubber can bring many great things to life. If you're too lazy or don't have video editing software, Tubedubber allows you to quickly and simply overlay the audio of your choice onto the Youtube video of your choice.
I'll be heading up to Los Angeles tomorrow, to commemorate the closing not closing of Arcade Infinity. So I'm posting this tonight, so I don't have to get up any earlier than I need to.
Some of you requested that I post a tutorial up here, so here's the first one, by way of Abduzeedo.com. This one might be a bit complicated for beginners to photoshop, so the next one will be toned down a bit. All of the files used are available at the end of the page, so you don't need Cinema4D in order to complete this tutorial.
As a designer, I often find myself with no passion to make something, so when that happens, I'll check out one of these badboys and get my juices flowing.
Sorry about not updating today/yesterday/thursday. My class schedule is pretty light through the week then Thursday comes and I have a 14-hour day, not including the commute. So Thursdays pretty much will never have a new post from me. Sorry if this ruins anyone's day. But really, this blog isn't that fantastic anyway :D
So guys, here's another one I made recently. December 31st to be exact.
So what do you think, should I post some more work for now or do you want more videos, some inspirational stuff by other people, or some tips on using photoshop?
Let me know in the comments section, and don't forget to follow!
